5 Sudbury Dishes That Scream Summer.

The warmer months are (eventually) coming, and along with it – patio season. What better place to enjoy a cold beverage, good company, and an incredible meal prepared by one of our dozens of stellar local restaurants.

Now, as much as a warm bowl of chili works for those frosty January evenings, it’s just not “summer” food. Here’s a list of 5 incredible local dishes ideal for that sun-drenched patio.

“La Playa” Grilled Pineapple Tacos – Tucos Tacos

What says summer better than sweet grilled pineapple? Prepared by the masters at the vegan-based Tucos Tacos on Kathleen, the dish features sweet grilled pineapple balanced nicely with spicy jalapeños, fresh pico de gallo, guac, and cabbage all wrapped in a fresh soft tortilla and topped with crema.

Visit Tucos Tacos at 582 Kathleen St or on Facebook Here.

Big Al’s Chicken & Ribs from Leslie’s Charbroil and Grill

Sometimes when the weather is warm, you just need to ignore the calories, and go for some comfort food. Leslie’s on Notre Dame serves up some of the best fried chicken and ribs, and offers convenient patio-style dining to boot. While you’re at it, might as well go all-in and add one of Sudbury’s best poutine’s as a side. Don’t worry, you can still Hasselhoff your way down the beach at Bell Park.

Stop by Leslie’s at 633 Notre Dame, Sudbury or check out their website here.

Buddha Bowl from The Laughing Buddha

One of Sudbury’s best patios, The Laughing Buddha is a downtown staple offering a wonderful mix of tasty foods. If its summer flavour you’re digging though, check out their Buddha Bowl. It’s an incredible melange of watermelon radish, crispy chick peas, avocado, beet hummus, sprouts, heirloom tomatoes, edamame, and cucumber on a bed of arugula and quinoa, and topped off with your choice of chicken, tempeh, tofu or my personal favourite, falafel. If this doesn’t scream summer, I don’t know what does!

Relax on the Buddha patio located at 194 Elgin St. or head on over to their website.

Burger #4 From The Townhouse

A summer menu wouldn’t be complete without a tasty burger, and the Townhouse (located just down from the Sudbury Arena) has proven their burgers to be amongst the best in the city. While any of their burgers are a good choice (try their beet burger), I’m choosing the awesomely named “Burger #4” as my summer choice. With a delicious combo of applewood smoked bacon, swiss cheese, herbed tomato, roasted garlic aioli and an onion ring, you won’t go home hungry. Make sure to order a side of their “Pride of Azilda” fries complete with T.Ho fry sauce.

Head downtown and visit The Townhouse at 206 Elgin St. and be sure to check out their website.

Fajita Pizza from Twiggs

I know, technically Twiggs started in North Bay, but safe to say our city has welcomed them in as one of our own, so they get a pass on this list. When it comes to patios, there’s few as majestic (and huge) as the Twiggs perch above the hustle and bustle of the Kingsway. Their masterful fajita pizza offers salsa, mozzarella cheese, onions, green peppers, and tomatoes served atop a thin flatbread-style crust, with the option of chicken to boot! What makes this even more of a summer treat though is if you wash it down with one of their fresh fruit iced teas (the raspberry is amazing).

You can visit Twiggs at 1332 Kingsway, or online here.
