The closest of the bedroom communities, Garson is just about 4 km Northeast of New Sudbury by way of Falconbridge Road. This smallish community is mostly residential in nature, and is surrounded by a natural landscape, including several square kilometers of rolling sand dunes, making it an ideal location for those wanting to live “just on the outskirts” of Sudbury.
The day-to-day retail amenities are limited right in Garson, with a fully stocked grocery store, a Tim Horton’s, and a few other shops making up the majority of the storefronts, however it’s proximity to New Sudbury and the Silver Hills Complex makes it a breeze to get what you’re looking for. Of note, the bus service in Garson is a little bit spotty, and residents are best to rely on a vehicle or bike to get what they need.
In terms of schooling, there are quality options for each school board in both French and English, and Garson lies just around the corner from Cambrian College, making it a reasonable option for off-campus students with a vehicle. The community also boasts several parks and playgrounds, including the sprawling Lorne Brady field with its three baseball diamonds.
Real estate in Garson is largely divided depending on the area. Old Garson, near Church St. features a nice mix of older homes with more affordable price tags. However, Garson has been the site of significant residential development over the past 30 years including the very popular Ravina Gardens, Cedargreen Subdivision, and Torrington Subdivision, each offering newer style homes in a more modern suburban setting.
The community of Garson certainly appears to be on the rise due to it’s proximity to New Sudbury, it’s wonderful outdoorsy terrain, and easy access to any part of the city via the newly constructed Maley extension.
